This customer wanted to replace the entire kitchen cabinets, granite, appliances and even the back splash tile
Since they were changing the entire look of the home, they decided to replace all of the flooring downstairs but were concerned about incorporating custom hardwood flooring into the design of their home, particularly in the huge curved entry step down. They sought out their neighbors who recommended San Diego Flooring Pros. We met with them to go over the detailed plans and exact timing that they needed for this project.
Since the family room is north facing on the back of the home, the color they chose for the hardwood flooring was a very natural 8 ⅝”” wide European oak from Monarch plank called monet. This type of flooring in San Diego is described by Monarch as a “ gorgeous color is an interpretation of an element in nature, designed to evoke a sensory experience. Tableau Features dramatic wide planks and consistent long lengths and the collection is designed around nature reflected through human experience much like the works of the legendary French Impressionist painter Monet whose name the color bears.”
We decided to custom make a beautiful new hand made step nosing to match the new hardwood floors.
They also decided to replace all the carpet on the step insets but decided to retain the existing false treads, stair railing and posts and repaint those with a dark contrasting color which really made them stand out.
Another part of their plan was to remove all the base shoe trim which they did not like and simply do away with it. Since they selected a high quality ⅝” thick flooring we were able to keep the existing 7” baseboards and undercut them to do away with that extra trim molding.
As you can see from the original photos the paint color was casting an orange tint onto the floor so they lightened all the walls with a great natural color and the new photos show how amazing this project turned out.
