Johan and Christina recently purchased a condo to facilitate visits with their son. However, upon moving in, they were dismayed to discover that the carpet in their new condo was not only old and would not clean very well but it also featured an unsightly lump near the entrance to the master bedroom.
They approached us seeking assistance with a small carpet project in La Jolla and wanted to reach out to someone local. Upon my initial inspection, it became apparent that the flooring beneath the carpet had been built up significantly, likely for soundproofing purposes. However, the previous contractor had poorly executed the transition, resulting in a pronounced hump in the carpeted area.
After clearing the room of furniture, carpet and padding then carefully examining it was confirmed that the previous workmanship was subpar, despite the contractor leaving their initials in the wet patch. Dissatisfied with the quality of the previous work, we knew immediate action was necessary.
Initially considering grinding down the uneven surface, we encountered challenges due to the condo’s location on the third floor and the constant ocean breeze, which would have made the process a bit messy. Upon closer inspection, we discovered that the patch was also improperly primed, leading to its easy dislodgement. Despite concerns from the neighbors below, we expedited the correction process by pounding out the old and properly priming and pouring a new layer, ensuring a smooth and level surface.
Ultimately, our client was delighted with the outcome. They no longer had to contend with the unsightly hump in their walkway, and the process was completed efficiently and effectively.
