In the heart of downtown Vista, a forgotten bank building is undergoing a spectacular transformation. Mike, a dedicated visionary, has secured this 3000-square-foot space with an ambitious goal in mind: to create an extraordinary rehearsal studio for the Moonlight Amphitheater productions. This venture promises to breathe new life into both the building and the vibrant arts community of Vista.
The Challenge: Budget-Friendly Excellence
Creating a top-tier rehearsal space in such a large area posed a significant challenge, particularly when it came to flooring. The ideal solution—a full sprung floor with a Marley surface—was prohibitively expensive. However, our team introduced Mike to a game-changing alternative: the Boen Actiflex system in real maple hardwood flooring.
The Boen Actiflex Solution
The Boen Actiflex floor system is a remarkable innovation designed to deliver performance without breaking the bank. This all-inclusive product features a padded underlay and blocking system, which suspends the finished hardwood floor while supporting a robust tongue-and-groove locking joint system. This design ensures both durability and the flexibility needed for dynamic dance and theater rehearsals.
Preparing the Space
Transforming the old bank building required meticulous preparation. Various old floor coverings had to be removed to reveal the subfloor beneath. Ensuring this surface was smooth and flat was crucial, as any imperfections could compromise the performance of the new floor. Our team worked diligently to meet the manufacturer’s tolerances, laying the groundwork for a flawless finish.
Custom Doorway Thresholds
One of the unique challenges of this project was integrating the new flooring with the existing varied flooring types throughout the building. From vinyl plank to exterior entry doors, each transition had to be seamless. We crafted custom doorway thresholds, some spanning two to three doors wide, using the same Boen Actiflex flooring material. The result was a smooth, gradual transition that exceeded the owners’ expectations.
Finishing Touches
To complete the studio, new glass mirrors are being installed on most walls. To accommodate this, we provided a square-edge baseboard to cover the edges and leave ample space for attaching the new j-metal. This attention to detail ensures a polished and professional appearance, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetics of the rehearsal space.
