We are excited to share with you the success story of our recent collaboration with a contractor from the vibrant state of Minnesota. Their reach extended all the way to the UTC Mall, where we joined forces to breathe new life into an exciting tenant improvement project for a unique outdoor clothing company: Outdoor Voices.
The project began with an intriguing challenge – refurbishing and refinishing the solid oak hardwood flooring for Outdoor Voices. This remarkable company is known for providing technical apparel for recreational enthusiasts, and they were about to make a significant splash in the UTC Mall.
Bringing the Floors to Life
One of the primary tasks was to restore the solid oak hardwood flooring that would be the foundation for Outdoor Voices’ new store. The floors had seen their fair share of wear and tear over the years, and the challenge was to bring them back to their former glory. To do this, we needed to repair and refinish the hardwood.
Interestingly, the team opted to return the flooring to its original, natural oak color. This decision not only retained the elegance of the wood but also allowed for a seamless transition into the store’s aesthetic. We utilized a commercial finish from Bona with a modern RAW sheen. This finish not only protected the wood but also gave it a sleek, natural look that was both durable and easy to maintain. The result? Oak hardwood floors that looked as if they had just been installed, yet with the robust protection to withstand the demands of a bustling mall.
Transforming the Space
Beyond the flooring, the project involved a comprehensive redesign of the store’s layout. Walls were removed, and the space was reconfigured to create an open, inviting environment for customers. With this new layout came the need for additional flooring in certain areas to seamlessly accommodate the redesigned floor plan.
But that wasn’t all. The project also required us to remove a substantial amount of stenciling and address heavy wear and tear on the surfaces. It was a complete transformation, and our team was up to the challenge.
Protecting the Entryway
As we know, mall foot traffic can be relentless, and preserving the freshly refinished floors was of paramount importance. To address this, we replaced the old, worn entry sisal mat with a new Cocoa mat from American Floor Mats. This addition not only complemented the overall aesthetics but also provided an extra layer of protection for the newly finished floors.
In the end, the UTC Mall tenant improvement project for Outdoor Voices was a resounding success. It showcased the capabilities of our team to expertly restore and refinish this solid hardwood floor and protecting the high-traffic areas. The result is a store that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of both our client and mall-goers.
