One of the most common calls we get is from homeowners frustrated with a poor flooring installation. Recently, we were brought in to correct a remodel where the previous contractors had cut corners—and the results were easy to spot.
The first red flag?
Cupping edges along the planks. This is almost always a sign that no plastic moisture barrier was installed beneath the flooring. Skipping this crucial step leaves the floor vulnerable to moisture problems and warping.
The second issue was the installation pattern.
The contractors had lined up the joints in a repeating pattern, which goes directly against manufacturer guidelines. Every flooring manufacturer recommends a random staggered pattern for added stability and longevity. Ignoring this not only weakens the floor but can also void the product warranty.
And perhaps the most obvious mistake:
Very poor subfloor preparation. Many DIYers and unqualified contractors don’t have the proper equipment to level the floor to the manufacturer’s specifications and simply install right over the existing subfloor. Uneven surfaces create gaps, squeaks, and long-term damage.
How We Fixed It
Our team removed the defective flooring, properly leveled the subfloor, and installed a plastic underlayment to protect against moisture. We then installed a premium 20-mil, 9-inch-wide vinyl plank—a durable product designed for both beauty and performance.

The homeowner also wanted a fresh look for their kitchen cabinets, so we recommended Tony at City View Painting. The results were stunning and the homeowner couldn’t say enough good things about Tony and his crew.

And since any project involving appliances or plumbing requires true expertise, and proper liability insurance we also recommended the homeowner call someone like PAWS Plumbing, a licensed professional you can trust for water-connected appliances.
