When Eileen at Finishing Touches Decor brought us this Oceanside flooring project, the original vision was a little different from where the home ultimately ended up.
Her client and his sister were inheriting a family home in the Oceanside 92056 area and initially planned to transform it into a comfortable San Diego getaway—a place where family could escape, relax, and enjoy the Southern California lifestyle.
The home quickly became a busy remodeling project, with several vendors working throughout the property while the homeowners pitched in on upgrades of their own. Bathrooms were refreshed, the kitchen received an entirely new look, and a variety of design details came together to give the home a completely updated feel.
Unfortunately, somewhere in the middle of all that activity, the construction photos disappeared. A year after we installed the flooring, however, we were able to revisit the finished project and capture some photos that show just how nicely everything came together.
A Rustic Hardwood Floor with Plenty of Character
For the main living areas, the family selected a product from the Private Collection in the color Adobe. The flooring has a comfortably rustic character that works particularly well with the home’s other design elements.
Rather than competing with the new finishes, the hardwood provides a warm, natural foundation for them.
The finished space brings together new cabinetry, appliances, distinctive tile work around the island, and other updated features. The combination creates a design that feels comfortable and lived-in rather than overly formal—which is exactly where a rustic-inspired hardwood floor can shine.
Hardwood Flooring Throughout the Main Areas
One of the things we especially liked about this installation was the decision to carry the hardwood flooring throughout the home’s main areas.
Using the same flooring across connected living spaces helps create continuity and makes the home feel more cohesive. The Adobe color also provides enough variation and natural character to keep the larger spaces from feeling flat.
Where the hardwood met the bathroom and laundry tile, we installed the flooring carefully to create a clean, flush transition. These details may not be the first thing you notice in a finished room, but they make a significant difference in how polished the overall installation feels.
A Southern California Setting
The location adds another appealing dimension to this project.
The home is part of an 55+ community in Oceanside and sits directly along the golf course. That means residents can enjoy the greenery and open views without the responsibility of maintaining a traditional grass lawn.
It’s a particularly nice combination for someone looking for a lower-maintenance home while still wanting to enjoy the outdoor character of a golf-course setting.
Inside, the flooring choice complements that same idea. Hardwood brings the warmth and natural character of wood into the home while providing a durable, timeless surface for the main living areas.
When Flooring Becomes Part of the Design
A successful flooring installation doesn’t necessarily need to be the focal point of a room.
Sometimes its job is to bring everything else together.
That’s what we think happened here. The rustic Adobe hardwood provides a visual connection between the kitchen, living areas, cabinetry, tile, and other finishes. It adds warmth without overwhelming the more distinctive design elements.
Although the family’s plans eventually changed and they decided to sell the home, the finished project still offers a great example of how the right hardwood flooring can complement a complete home renovation.
