Very nice young couple living with parents finally snagged a home they can afford in Carmel Valley!
Carley came to us looking for a way to remove all of the existing carpeting from the home as it is a health concern for their family.
We met to discuss the many options which also included a proposal to refinish the downstairs flooring. We found out the existing floor is a nice quality maple but is a character or cabin grade with many knots, mineral streaks, etc., very similar to a project we just finished in 4s Ranch.
They opted to leave the dark flooring in the downstairs and get some use out of it but wanted to select a light natural color for the upstairs and eventually combine the 2 later in the future. We looked through a dozen samples and took home several but when she saw this baltic ash she fell in love.
Once they started getting into photos of other floors and stairs they also decided to take out and replace the outdated older style false tread molding on the sides of the steps to give the smaller sized staircase a really light open feel.
They also had this curved step that she wanted to retain so we were able to find an unfinished tread in Baltic Ash that we carved out to make the bottom step match the new hardwood flooring.
We were able to accommodate changing out the spindles and recommended a painter to refinish the darker handrails to complete the fresh new look.
When escrow closed and the tenants moved out we got to work removing carpet, preparing the subflooring and installing this beautiful new Baltic ash hardwood floor in the Pacific Highlands Ranch area of Carmel Valley.
