Diane asked her friends to help her find someone who could try to take out the faded areas and light scratches in her wide plank walnut flooring.
I was able to stop by the next day and check out the condition of the floor and it appeared that most of the finish was gone and no longer protecting the flooring.
It turns out the thickness of the wear layer was great; the scratches were not too deep, and we believe that the discoloration was only the loss of the stain color that was used originally.
Their biggest concern now was moving all the custom heavy furniture, so they had someone come and stage it all in the garage.
We set up the sanding so they could still have access the first day or so but then once the coating starts going down it’s best to take a couple of days away from the home.
As with most onsite finishes, you can walk on it when it’s dry but best to wait several days and sometimes up to a week before replacing large items or area rugs.
The new finish will protect the value of the walnut hardwood flooring in this Del Mar home for many years to come.
