A young couple recently embarked on a journey from Florida to our vibrant neighborhood in San Diego. They purchased a condo in Sabre Springs and contacted us to help them turn their new space into something truly special.
Their initial idea was to salvage the existing hardwood flooring in their condo. However, upon closer examination, it became evident that the wear layer thickness, heavy wear and tear, along with some water damage that had occurred over the years, rendered the hardwood flooring unsuitable for refinishing. This presented the perfect opportunity for a fresh start.
The couple’s excitement grew as they began exploring the possibilities of creating a brighter, more open concept for their home. Their vision involved removing the three different types of flooring and ugly transition strip near the entryway, which would not only unify the space but also add significant value to their property.
With the decision to move forward with this exciting transformation, our team got to work. We began by removing the existing flooring from the entryway, kitchen, living, and dining areas. During this process, we encountered a unique challenge: the underlayment was so closely bonded to the flooring that it came out with it. To ensure a smooth installation of the new flooring, we had to apply a substantial amount of leveling compound. This meticulous work was essential to meet the manufacturer’s tolerance of ⅛ inch in 10 feet.
To protect the new flooring from any moisture that might linger in the freshly poured concrete underlayment, we applied a 6-mil plastic underlayment. This added layer not only ensures the longevity of the flooring but also provides peace of mind to the homeowners.
The result of this transformation is truly stunning. The open concept design has made the space appear larger, brighter, and more inviting. It’s a transformation that not only enhances the couple’s daily living experience but also significantly increases the value of their home.
