The Hardwood Refinishing Journey

Carol has a beautiful home but it’s on the bluff in Solana Beach and gets a lot of salt air that gets ground into the finish.

She came to us to see if we could bring the flooring in the high use entry, kitchen and family rooms back to its original condition.  She was also concerned about all the broken stair nosing trim pieces and wanted to know if we could replace those.

First we needed to look at the remaining wear layer of the wood and discovered that it was a good surface for sanding.

Then we looked at the condition in front of the slider which faces the ocean and it had a lot of ground in the salt air. I advised her that we may not be able to completely remove all the wear and tear in that area.

Then we found a new wood stair nosing that we installed and finished to match her new color.

As with any older floors they won’t be perfect but as you can see from the photos this floor came out way better than expected.

We also added new register vents as the last ones were cracked and never matched the flooring color.
