Last year, we had the privilege of taking on a unique challenge for the GOOD Yoga Studio in Encinitas. The project began with addressing the main studio floor, which presented an unusually uneven subfloor—a hurdle that required meticulous preparation and expertise.
Missy, the owner of GOOD Yoga, was captivated by the look and functionality of the flooring we installed in her main studio. So much so that she decided to extend the transformation to her business office on the other side of the building. This gave us the opportunity to elevate another space with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Tackling the Subfloor Challenges
Our first task was to remove the existing flooring completely. The subfloor was far from level, so we began by grinding down high spots in the plywood to create a more uniform surface. Next, we primed and filled the area using approximately 40 bags of leveling compound. This process ensured a perfectly smooth foundation—an essential step for the high-quality finish yoga studios demand.
Adding Character with Base Shoe Molding
This side of the project came with its own unique set of challenges. While the existing Craftsman baseboards provided a solid starting point, the presence of multiple pipes, wires, and appliances called for a creative solution. To maintain the studio’s aesthetic integrity, we decided to enhance the baseboards with Craftsman-style base shoe molding. This subtle addition not only resolved the functional issues but also added a distinct touch of character to the space.
The Finished Look: Wider Planks and Lighter Tones
Missy’s vision for a more open and cohesive feel was brought to life with the installation of Gemcore’s Garnett Collection. This square-edged vinyl plank flooring product is a perfect choice for yoga studios, offering a smooth and seamless finish that’s both visually appealing and practical. The newer, wider planks and lighter color tones created a sense of spaciousness and stability, perfectly complementing the studio’s serene atmosphere.
A Space for Movement and Mindfulness
The completed project transformed the business office into a harmonious extension of the main studio. The clean, polished surface and thoughtfully designed details ensure that every inch of the space reflects the values and purpose of GOOD Yoga Studio. Whether it’s for practicing poses or managing the studio’s operations, the new flooring provides a solid foundation for Missy’s thriving business.
